As the bright green foliage has gone away for the season, take notice of the beautiful berries left on branches, the bark of certain shrubs and trees and the dried grass and flower heads. All of these can be used in your window boxes or planters. We’ve all seen the same spruce top winter arrangements. This year don’t be afraid to add oversized branches or spray paint twigs in fun colors. Hydrangea doesn’t have to be the only dried flower to add. For something new, try dried Astilbe flowers, or even spent Lilac flowers or buds. Or again, spray paint the dried flowers. Don’t be afraid to try something new – you can always remove it!

We’re proud to say we won the most inspirational booth at the 19th Annual Midwest Home Show. Thank you to all our clients who stopped by to sign our guest book, see our fall themed booth or those of you who have remembered us from past shows. Thanks for your comments and feedback, we always appreciate it. The very popular patio was a new product from Anchor Block called Slaton – and yes, it can be installed in your backyard.

They had an existing deck off the second level of their home and a putting green off the basment level but not a very user friendly access between the two. The existing hillside started as an obstacle and become the main focus for gathering and access to the green. The hillside was reinforced with a retaining wall that enclosed the blue stone slate patio and provided a very roomy seat bench for extra guests. The existing deck pillars were matched in the retaining walls and additional columns with fod du lac stone. Careful planning had to be done for the gas lines running through the patio for firebowls on the columns and electrical lines for the outdoor landscape lighting. The couple can cook up on the deck, entertain on the patio by firelight or easily reach the golf green – their backyard is now more cohesive and beautifully done with natural stone materials.

This Woodbury residence is a young family of five with three active boys. The couple enjoyed entertaining but wanted to be very accessible and nearby while the kids were playing. They wanted a larger outdoor patio, a gas burning firepit and an outdoor kitchen with a grill adaptable enough for gourmet cuisine as well as host a future T-Ball team. Extra seating space was created without the need for additional furniture with a curved seat wall. An arbor nestled the patio space against the house and created a ‘grand entry’ into the yard also visible from the indoor kitchen window. Curved stone steps allow a generous landing pad in and out of the sliding patio door. A small landscape island set against the house softe
